Huon Pine is a conifer and thought of as the prince of the Tasmanian timbers. The richness of its golden colour and figure and being one of the most beautiful timbers available, and this is why Pen Elegance chooses to use it as a wood within its selection of elegant pens.

Due to the fact that this wood only grows in the south-western areas of Tasmania and given that this tree is extremely slow growing (0.3-2mm per year in diameter), this wood is considered rare, and just another reason Pen Elegance treats this wood with great respect in its products.

Huon Pine is acknowledged to be the world’s second oldest tree of which some individuals have been aged to well over 3,000 years. (The oldest tree is the bristle-cone pine of North America, which exceeds it in age.) So, the wood in your Huon Pine pen could easily be thought of as being many hundreds of years old, or far older.

Due to all of this Tasmania limits its export of this wood, which also adds to the rarity of the wood used in your pen.

In an effort to protect these rare and exotic trees, strict laws prevent taking any wood that has not been recovered from either dead fallen or from impoundments created for hydro-electricity generation can be harvested. If anyone is caught with illegal pine in their possession, they face huge fines or jail times.

Pen Elegance is proud to offer this wood in its pen range for you admire, own and use on a daily basis.
